A gas explosion left a Queens home with a warped wall and two people inside the home with injury. The explosion happened at 32-25 Leavitt Street, Flushing NY 11354. A man in the home was said to be “bleeding” his propane tank near the back entrance to the home when the fumes suddenly ignited. The explosion left the front wall of the house pushed out, scattering debris all over. Two other people were inside the home during the time of the explosion and were rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell to have their injury treated. The hospital is located at 525 East 68th Street New York NY 10065. Police have not released the name of the injured parties and will not confirm if the reside in the Flushing home. The have said both parties suffered injury including burns.

Robert Puppa, a 33 year old Brooklyn firefighter was responding to a call when the fire truck he was in was involved in an accident. The accident occurred on Ashford Street in East New York. Another fire truck crashed into his and caused his truck to flip over, pinning him beneath it. He was stuck for two hours before workers were able to cut through the truck to rescue him. Puppa and 11 other fireman sustained injury during the crash. They were taken to Brookdale University Hospital; located at 1 Brookdale Plaza, Brooklyn NY 11212. Puppa suffered serious injury to his legs.

A Myrtle Ave., Brooklyn NY, apartment building collapsed leaving four people injured. The building had been cited by the city for having a crack that ran from the third to the first floor. Though the crack was reported on May 1, 2009, the owner claims it has been there for at least ten years. The building had been undergoing repairs for more than a week and a half. The building shook violently before it collapsed, which alerted the people inside. When the building fell it took down part of the building connected to it and trapped a 10 year old under the rubble. The girl, along with 4 other residents, had sustained bruises, cuts and scrapes but did not suffer any serious injury. Kings County Police report that at least one of the victims was admitted to the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

Recently, a morning PATH train got into an accident while passengers were still aboard. PATH; which stands for Port Authority Trans Hudson; run from New Jersey to New York. The train that caused the accident was coming out of Hoboken, NJ and heading towards the World Trade Center Memorial. The train had approximately 450 passengers on it when it collided with a “bumper block” (a mechanism used to stop the train) at the 33rd Street Station in New York City. Fourteen people including the conductor sustained injury. They were taken to various hospitals in Manhattan, NY. The PATH employees were taken to Bellevue Hospital; located at 462 First Ave, New York NY 10016. The other passengers on the train declined medical attention. New York County Police have not released the types of injury suffered by those involved in the accident but did say all injuries were minor ones.

A Bronx fire department responded to a call of a collapsed stair case in an apartment building on East 187th Street in Bronx NY. When they arrived on the scene, they found the stairwell between the third and fourth floor had caved in. Unfortunately, it came down on top of a man. Police have not released the man’s name as of yet. They did disclose he suffered injury, but would not comment on the type of injury. He was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. Maryland had been hit by a blizzard, then a severe rain storm a week later. The roof of the building was flat and already heavy from all of the snow.
