A fire truck from Engine 275 was on its way to a call when it was involved in an accident with another car. The car it collided with was being driven by 25 year old Angela Johnson, Howard Beach NY. Johnson is the daughter of Linda Johnson, the pastor of Great Commission Church, 108-42 Sutphin Blvd. Jamaica NY 11435. Reports indicate Johnson stopped at a stop sign then continued into the intersection. The fire truck had its sirens and lights on when it was coming down the street and tried to stop. Unfortunately, it crashed into the car. Firefighters pulled Johnson out of the car. She was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital; located at 15211 89th Ave # 1 Jamaica, NY 11432. Sadly, she suffered a fatal injury during the crash. Six Firefighters also sustained injury during the accident. They were all taken to Long Island Jewish Center; located at 27005 76th Avenue New Hyde Park, NY 11040. Two of the firefighters suffered serious injury. There was no evidence of drug possession and no charges were filed by authorities.

Two students at SUNY Farmingdale campus; located at 2350 Broadhollow Rd, Farmingdale, NY 11735; suffered injury after a garbage truck accidentally ran them over. Suffolk County Police state that a Jamaica Ash garbage truck had been backing up when he struck the students. Reports indicate the driver did not see them but stopped when he heard screaming. It was then he realized the accident occurred. One student suffered an immediate, fatal injury. The other was taken to Nassau University Medical Center; located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY 11554. The student was treated for a fractured pelvis. The driver of the garbage truck was also taken to the hospital and treated for emotional distress. Suffolk County Police will not be pressing charges even for a misdemeanor against the driver.

A van holding ten people was driving on Route 347 in Suffolk County when it caused a serious accident. Route 347, which runs east to west, connects Hauppauge to Mount Sinai in Suffolk County, Long Island. The van was traveling west when it struck a bus that was turning into a parking lot in Nesconset, NY. The bus was empty except for the driver, who was unhurt at the time of the accident. All ten occupants of the van suffered various types of injury, including head injuries. They were taken to Stony Brook University; located at 101 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook NY 11790; and St. Catherine’s Hospital; located at 50 Route 25A, Smithtown NY 11787. Suffolk County Police report three of the passengers involved in the crash were listed in critical condition. There was no evidence of DWI at the scene of the accident.

A boom truck was driving on the Whitestone Bridge when it somehow managed to hit a sign. A boom truck is a truck with an attached crane. It is possible the crane was still upright when the truck struck the sign, but Queens County Police are still investigating the accident. The truck struck a sign on the Queens side of the Whitestone Bridge, causing traffic to back up for miles on to the Whitestone Expressway. The driver and passenger of the truck both suffered injury during the accident. They were taken to New York Hospital of Queens; located at 56-45 Main Street Queens, New York, NY 11355 for treatment. Queens county Police report both received serious injury. Luckily, no other cars were involved in the accident.

Nassau County Police had been driving north on Broadway when it was involved in a car accident. Reports state the police car had in lights flashing while the accident occurred, but do not state where the car was headed. The police car crashed into a Dodge Charger that had two people inside. The Charger was heading westbound. Both occupants of the Charger suffered injury, as did the two police officers involved in the crash. All four people were taken to Nassau County Medical Center for treatment on their injuries. Nassau County Medical Center is located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY 11554. The passengers of the Charger both suffered head injury. One officer sustained injury to his leg, the other suffered injury to his head. The were no drugs involved and no charges of Drug Possession was brought by the authorities.

Luísa Pinho Sartori, a Brazil born student was killed on the New York State Thruway as she headed back to her campus at Duke University in North Carolina. After 3 teenagers left a diner they were victims of a fatal car accident. In order for the bodies to be removed from the wreckage it took five hours. Bayshore’s Saxon Avenue was the scene of a two- car accident where two roads had to be closed and a serious injury resulted. One person was taken by ambulance to Southside Hospital located on East Main Street in Bayshore, NY. The injury was reported to be very serious.
