A Queens woman receives $65K from a Personal Injury lawsuit against the NYPD reports a New York Injury Lawyer

Naeema Screven had filed a lawsuit against the New York Police Department in 2007 after she was sprayed with pepper spray. Early 2007, Screven had been running to catch a train, and had run down an up- only staircase to avoid the crowd at the busy Broadway station in Brooklyn, NY. A NYPD Officer claimed he saw Screven’s purse hit several people along the way, so he stopped her and asked for her identification. Screven realized she did not have any identification on her and started dialing a family member to bring it for her. While she was dialing, the police officer sprayed her in the face with pepper spray. The NYPD Officer then arrested Screven for disorderly conduct. She was kept in police custody for over 14 hours. Screven and her New York Injury Lawyer filed a lawsuit against the NYPD in Brooklyn Federal Court based on the over zealous action of the officer. The Court ruled in Screven’s favor and she was awarded $65,000.00 in May 2010.

Staten Island bus driver deemed a hero, boasts New York Injury Lawyer

A bus driver in Staten Island was lauded a hero for retrieving a man from a Sport Utility
Vehicle that was engulfed in flames. The engine burst into flames following an accident.

investigations are still pending. No word was given if any other vehicles were involved or
what caused of the collision, mechanical failure or operator error. The identity of the

Attorney awarded full fees, according to New York Injury Lawyer

The lawyer who represented a man injured when a Staten Island ferry crashed has
finally been awarded his full attorney fees from the settlement. In 2008, the attorney
won the case of a man paralyzed from the chest down as a result of the Andrew J.
Barberi ferry accident which occurred on October 15, 2003, reports a New York Injury
Attorney. Due to the age of the incident, details of the crash were not given at this time
as they had been previously reported. No pictures were offered either. The final verdict
was $18.3 million for the injured man, giving the lawyer a grand total of $6 million for
representation. Brooklyn Federal Judge decreased the attorney's compensation to 20%
of the total award instead of the typical one-third shortly after the decision of the case,
says a New York Injury Lawyer. The judge gave the reasoning that the city's
liability for the crash had been proven before the case went to trial, thereby apparently
lessening the amount of work for the attorney. The issue of liability was the main factor
in the judge's decision for the cut, and it is not clear if there were any other contributing
reasons. This reduction brought the total for the attorney to $3,660,000. After an almost
two year battle, the judge has reversed his decision and the attorney will get to keep the
full $6 million. A New York Injury Lawyer should be the first call after an incident in
which you are harmed as a result of someone else's carelessness.

There is no reason to not receive the highest possible compensation when you have
been injured by the negligence of another. Call a New York Injury Attorney today and
get started on the road to recovery, physically and financially. A New York Injury Lawyer
may not be able to take away all your pain, but they can help diminish the mental
anguish and suffering from an accident.

Mine Safety Regulations under review according to New York Injury Lawyer

After the deadly explosion in the West Virginia mine, the President of the United States has ordered that the regulations and laws involving mine safety be reviewed. Current laws are so full of loopholes that unsafe conditions are allowed to continue. Preliminary reports have determined that the blast in the Upper Big Branch mine resulted in some coal dust mixing with a buildup of methane gas, which could have been prevented. The incident is still under investigation for the specific cause of the eruption. A New York Injury Lawyer stated that this particular mine has a long history of safety issues, and is operated by a company being watched closely by officials for significant violations in the past. President Barack Obama is concerned about the amount of mines with inadequate safety procedures in place, and wants these issues evaluated. He has called for strengthening of existing laws and regulations. There are too many companies in which the protection of employees is jeopardized for the sake of the profit margin. The Upper Big Branch mine had 19 times the national rate of violations leading to the shut down of the mine for repairs during the year of 2009, according to a New York Injury Lawyer. These companies cannot continue to operate mines meanwhile disregarding their hazardous conditions, and President Obama has instructed federal officials to step in and work to ensure that preventable disasters such as this explosion do not occur in the future. Preventing future tragedies like this is of national concern.

Families who have been devastated by unsafe working conditions should contact a New York Injury Attorney for review of their case. You have rights and should not go through this without a New York Injury Lawyer.
