NYC Settles in Case of 2006 Police Shooting

The city is going to pay more than $7 million to settle a civil suit involving a fatal police shooting, a New York Injury Lawyer reports. A Brooklyn federal judge approved the deal, ending a long, racially-charged affair that caused disputes and shocked disbelief all through the city.
The slain man was having a bachelor party at a strip club in Queens when he was shot to death. He was scheduled to be married just hours later on November 25, 2006. He was survived by his children, 7 and 4 years of age. His estate will receive $3.25 million, a New York Injury Lawyer has learned.
A friend of the victim, who was wounded, will receive $3 million. Another friend who was shot will get $900,000. The city’s press release appeared to beg for forgiveness. “The city regrets the loss of life in this tragic case,” it read in part.
The victim’s fiancée told a New York Injury Lawyer that she found the settlement “fair”. She went on to say, “No amount of money will provide closure.”
The $7 million is one of the largest payouts the city has ever been compelled to make. One man received $9.9 million after serving 19 years in prison. He had been framed by a cop for murder. Another man received $8.7 million after being brutalized by cops in a Brooklyn station house in 1997.
It’s true that no amount of money can ever make everything right again, but that doesn’t mean someone who did something wrong to you or a loved one should get away with it. A New York Injury Attorney is ready to assist you. Your case can be heard before court and get the attention it’s due when you have a New York Injury Attorney representing you.

A 64-year-old Greenlawn resident is still in a medically induced coma after his airport shuttle van was hit head-on by a Mercedes-Benz driven by a 30-year-old man from Hempstead. The driver of the Mercedes was driving the wrong way, a spokeswoman for the New York City Police Department told a New York Injury Lawyer. There were no passengers in the shuttle at the time.
The Greenlawn man is in critical condition with bruised lungs, and a broken rib cage, pelvis, and right leg, his son-in-law told a New York Injury Lawyer. “He’s fighting for his life right now,” the son-in-law said.
The 30-year-old man from Hempstead was also taken to the same hospital, police told a New York Injury Lawyer. He has been charged with vehicular assault, drunken driving, and reckless endangerment. He has also been placed under police guard. There are no further updates on his condition. The son-in-law said his father-in-law had his two daughters at his side before being sedated. “He tapped his heart to indicate he loved them,” said the son-in-law.

Man Hit by Bat in 2007 Sues Mets,

Luis Castillo is costing the Mets money, aside from his hefty contract, says a New York Injury Lawyer. He is being sued by a New Jersey man who was badly injured after being struck by a piece of Castillo’s shattered bat – a man who was sitting in the presumably safe box seats at the time.
The 2007 Mets-Brave game turned into a nightmare for New Jersey man who sustained multiple facial fractures. He had to have pins placed into his jaw and metal plates placed in his face.
“It looks like a spear,” the victim’s attorney told a New York Injury Lawyer about the bat that hit his client in the face. “It’s going to be a long time before he takes his son to another ballgame.”
The victim is not suing only the player, but the manufacturer of the bat, the Mets, Major League Baseball, and the player who loaned Castillo the bat in the first place. The suit seeks an undisclosed sum of money.
The heart of the suit is maple bats, like the one Castillo used, claiming such bats are more prone to shattering than bats made from ash. “When a maple bat shatters,” the plaintiff’s attorney told a New York Injury Lawyer, “it actually explodes. It sends shrapnel everywhere.”

Biden had met with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently.
In November of 2009, an NYPD car driving ahead of Biden’s motorcade had a minor accident involving a livery cab. Biden was due to appear on “The Daily Show” at the time. Guidance Counselor offers little guidance, say New York Injury Lawyer

It appears that the most important role of a guidance counselor, to give guidance and some help or direction to a student, has been seriously failed. A guidance counselor working at a local school was recently reprimanded for inappropriate remarks made on a phone call, reports a New York Injury Lawyer. The counselor was approached by the mother of a boy at her school who was being bullied. A follow up call that was apparently intended for someone else showed the true feelings of the counselor, who insulted the child and implied that he exaggerated things that were happening in school.

The mother of the boy was also called vulgar names and insulted, and after she listened to the call, she reported the counselor to the school. According to a New York Injury Lawyer it was the first incident in the guidance counselor's otherwise clean career. The counselor was given a letter of reprimand by the principal at the school, but no further action has yet taken place.

The mother believes that the counselor has gotten off with too light a sentence, as she and her son had gone to her in need of help, and their trust was betray. A New York Injury Lawyer said that the mother believed the counselor should no longer be allowed to offer guidance at the school. It can only be hoped by parents at the school will not have their own children misguided by the counselor, and parents everywhere hope that this nightmare situation does not happen at their own school.

$12 Million to Be Handed Out in Peanut Case, Says New York Injury Lawyer

One person, a West Virginia man, is going to get nearly $2.4 million out of a $12 million settlement following a salmonella outbreak. According to a New York Injury Lawyer, this is the largest share any single person will receive.
“Everything that could have gone wrong with you went wrong with him,” said the 59-year-old West Virginia man’s attorney to a New York Injury Lawyer. “He almost died.”
A federal judge recommended that the 122-claim settlement be approved. It included the claims of the families of nine people who had died, and 45 children who had been sickened.
Settlements involving the children will range from $15,000 to $395,008, a New York Injury Lawyer has learned. The wrongful death cases could settle for between $98,752 and $987,520.
“My clients have been through a lot,” another attorney told a New York Injury Lawyer. The attorney represented two of the wrongful death claimants and 18 of the sickened children. “They have mounting medical bills … they really want closure.”
Salmonella was found in a container of peanut butter in January of 2009, leading to recalls of the product and those it supplied to other manufacturers. The company with the tainted peanut butter began filing for bankruptcy in February 2009.

The 17-year-old daughter of the US ambassador to Thailand was killed when she fell from a mid-city luxury highrise, sources reported to a New York Injury Lawyer. She fell from a 25th story window of Herald Square Towers on West 34th Street to land upon the third floor overhang, police sources told a New York Injury Lawyer. The young woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police arrested a man who is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor. The relationship of this man to the young woman is not clear, at this point.
New York Injury Lawyers believe the young woman was at a party in the 25th floor apartment when she fell at around 4:15 in the morning. “They’d been drinking,” said the building engineer, who saw the partiers walking through the lobby fifteen to twenty minutes earlier. “They’d invited some other people back from a club.”
The circumstances leading to the tragedy are still under investigation, but New York Personal Injury Lawyers were told she might have been just leaning out of the window for some fresh air when she lost her balance and fell. A 25-year-old man was identified as the host of the party and arrested for supplying alcohol to minors.

Texting Bus Driver Convicted, Reports New York Injury Lawyer

A bus driver crashed his bus because he was texting – and it was all caught on videotape. He caused an accident on Loop 410, according to a New York Injury Lawyer, and he is now the first person in Bexar County to be convicted of reckless driving due to texting.
The jury was out for only ten minutes before returning with a guilty misdemeanor verdict for the 29-year-old bus driver who may spend up to 30 days in jail when he is sentenced, sources told a New York Injury Lawyer.
He has requested probation, but the judge in charge of the case would like this case to set an example to all who might consider texting while driving. She would like to see jail time imposed.
“This is setting a community standard,” the judge said after the verdict to a New York Injury Lawyer. “Don’t do this. You need to resist the temptation (to pick up the cell phone). It’s very dangerous.”
The bus had two disabled passengers aboard when it hit the back of an SUV at 34 mph.
During the trial, the prosecutor played footage from the inside of the bus, which showed the accident as it occurred. It also showed that the driver had been checking text messages on his phone for six minutes before the wreck occurred.
“When traffic built up at its worst, he was still texting,” the prosecutor argued. “Six minutes is a long time to have a phone in your hand – looking down, looking up, looking down, looking up.”
