Small Shopping Center Destroyed by Fire, Says New York Injury Lawyer

It took firefighters from a dozen departments several hours to finally put out a fire that destroyed a small shopping center in Amityville, officials told a New York Injury Lawyer.
The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at the single-story center, which contained a spa, a ski tour company, and a stained-glass gallery. All of them were destroyed by the fire, the salon owner told a New York Injury Lawyer.
First responders attempted to control the fire from its source, which appeared to be the basement, but the fire weakened the first floor so severely, they had to retreat outside. The fire was put out by 11 a.m. Due to the hot and dry summer, the nearby hydrants did not have enough pressure, so water had to be pumped from the Amityville River, a quarter-mile away, according to a New York Injury Lawyer.
The basement was shared by all three businesses, the salon owner told a New York Injury Lawyer. Her supply of salon goods were kept there. She described the basement as “like a maze”. Her first concern, she said, was about how her 23 employees were going to support their families. The owner of the building could not be reached for comment. No injuries were reported.

Six Men Receive Settlement for Childhood Abuse by Scout Leader, Reports NYC Injury Lawyer

Six men who were abused by a former Portland, Oregon Scout leader when they were children have settled their cases with the Boy Scouts of America, their attorneys told a New York Injury Lawyer.
The settlement prevents the attorneys and the men from discussing amounts of money they received in compensation for abuses suffered in the 1980s. New York Injury Lawyers believe the money likely reaches into multiple millions, since the Boy Scouts of America have also agreed to pay the state $2.25 million in punitive damages.
“The Boy Scouts of America, by paying these punitive damages, have acknowledged that they were wrong,” said an attorney for one of the six men to a New York Injury Lawyer. Another attorney hoped the settlement would make the Boy Scouts safer, just as litigation against the Catholic Church made the church safer.
Among the plaintiffs was a 38-year-old man who received $20 million in punitive and compensatory damages. Most of it was to be paid by Boy Scouts of America, who was held at fault for not protecting the boy from a convicted pedophile, who also happened to be an assistant Scoutmaster.

It is for cases such as these that make New York Injury Attorneys so important. The efforts of a New York Injury Attorney can help you get more than compensation – they can help you achieve justice.

Rail System Offers Settlement to Victims of California Rail Crash, Says New York Injury Lawyers

A commuter rail system is offering to pay a $200 million settlement to victims and the families of victims of a deadly 2008 crash, New York Injury Lawyers have learned.
Twenty-five people died and more than 100 were injured when a commuter train crashed into a freight train in Chatsworth, California, on September 12, 2008. Federal investigators told a New York Injury Lawyer that the commuter train’s engineer was sending text messages seconds before the train crashed.
“The reason we went in this direction was our desire to try and get money to the families of victims as soon as possible,” said the vice chairman of the train company’s board of directors. “By filing this motion in federal court … we believe this will take years off litigation and allow families to recover faster.”
$200 million is the liability cap allowed under federal law in passenger rail accidents, according to a New York Injury Lawyer. That may not be nearly enough, however. There may be some victims with medical bills of six or seven figures who will not get adequate compensation from a mere $200 million. Attorneys are looking for ways to fully compensate everyone involved.
When you or a loved one suffer a personal injury that causes time lost from work or from family duties, that’s a loss of money. You will need compensation and the assistance of a New York Injury Attorney to get it. A New York Injury Attorney has the training and expertise to bring your case to its best possible resolution.

Mother Bring Suit Against Inflatable Company Over Child’s Death, Reports New York Injury Lawyer

A Witchita, Kansas inflatable-amusement company is being suited by the mother of a 5-year-old boy who died after a fall from a inflatable ride, New York Injury Lawyers have learned. The mother claims the company operated their equipment in an unsafe manner.
The boy died after falling from an inflatable ride and hitting his head on a concrete floor. The mother wants to collect “an amount in excess of $75,000” for personal injury and wrongful death. Her suit also claims that the company violated the Kansas Consumer Protection Act, and wants $10,000 per violation.
The mother’s attorney told a New York Injury Lawyer, “Our basis for this (lawsuit) is that the company take some responsibility or accountability for what they did. So far they have refused to do so.”
The boy’s 5th birthday was held at the company’s facility. A particular ride involved an inflatable unit like a mattress, flat but with a bulge in the middle. It is surrounded by a 2-foot-high inflatable barrier.
An employee said the child was to be placed in the center of the unit. Adults jump on the flat sides, which launches the child into the air. Four days later, the family returned with free passes and attempted the maneuver. The boy flew over the barrier and landed headfirst on the concrete floor.

Man Drowns in Pool over 4th of July Weekend

A Fourth of July weekend became an occasion for tragedy when a man drowned in a Long Island backyard pool, Suffolk police told a New York Injury Lawyer. The 32-year-old man did not know how to swim, police said to a New York Injury Lawyer, but he still went alone and unwatched into the pool of his friend.
“All we know for certain is that he did not know how to swim,” a homicide detective told a New York Injury Lawyer. “His family knew him as a non-swimmer.” The victim was visiting his wife, stepson, and others. He left the group inside and went out to the pool. He was gone for about 15 minutes before his wife decided to look for him.
“His wife actually discovered him at the bottom of the deep end of the pool, which is 8 feet deep,” a police detective told a New York Injury Lawyer. Attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful. The victim had no health problems and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Investigators will wait for a medical examiner’s report before determining the cause of death officially.

Family of Slain Woman May Get Policy Benefits

The mother of a confessed killer being sued for the crime may be able to use her homeowners insurance policy to pay for damages, a New York Injury Lawyer has learned. The plaintiffs are the family of the murdered woman. Should the defendant lose, her homeowner policies may pay up to $550,000 of the settlement according to the ruling by a Supreme Court justice.
The 66-year-old defendant is being sued by the family of a Glen Cove woman who was killed and dismembered by the defendant’s son in August 2006. Should she lose the suit, her homeowners insurance policy will kick in, since the killing took place in her home, her attorney told a New York Injury Lawyer. They will pay damages to the victim’s family up to $250,000.
If the damages are higher than that, the company that covers the defendant’s excess homeowner’s insurance will pay an additional $300,000, the judge ruled. The company believes it should not be responsible, since the defendant did not notify the company of the lawsuit at first.
The killer of the woman is serving a sentence of 30 years to life in prison. The family of the victim argued that the murderer’s mother either knew or should have known her son was dangerous. The defendant’s attorney has told a New York Injury Lawyer that the suit is still pending.
No one should be able to escape justice. If someone has done wrong to you or a loved one, a New York Injury Lawyer will ensure just compensation. Your case deserves proper representation and a New York Injury Attorney can provide it.

Doctor-Pilot Remained Calm Until the Very End

A doctor-pilot showed no sense of alarm even minutes before her small plane went out of control and crashed in a fiery explosion, sources told a New York Injury Lawyer.
The doctor’s plane, a Cirrus SR22, had just been cleared for landing, when she aborted the effort, causing the four-seater craft to bump up and down and finally crash a quarter-mile from the runway. The doctor, 70, her stepson, 44, and his wife, 47, all from Manhattan, perished in the explosion. “Her last words were that she was going to ‘go around’,” a source told a New York Injury Lawyer.
Controllers could do nothing as the doctor’s plane went out of control, striking the ground propeller first two times before crashing and bursting into flames, the source told a New York Injury Lawyer. “[The doctor’s] goodness was a beacon for all the young doctors who passed through her program,” the doctor’s husband said when talking of her work at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
The doctor’s cousin said of the family, “Their loss is incalculable. [The doctor] did so much good for so many people.” The doctor’s stepson was a bank executive and his wife was a fashion designer who “were besotted with one another”, the cousin said.
