A car accident occured on a rainy night, resulting in the death of the victim. The woman who was behind the wheel, plead guilty to accident involving death or personal injury and was sentenced to one to five years in prison, the minimum mandatory sentence for a felony charge.

The defendant is eligible for the work release program offered at the prison where she is to serve. She also agreed to pay $500 to the scholarship fund set up in the victim’s name. The judge did point out that such a pledge was not legally binding.

The 17-year-old victim walked in front of the woman’s car and died because of injuries sustained at impact, according to a New York Injury Lawyer. The defendant was not impaired by either drugs or alcohol, but she ‘panicked’ after hitting the girl and kept driving. Her car was stopped less than three miles away where she admitted her involvement.

A Suffolk County Personal Injury Lawyer reveals that had the defendant stopped at the scene, she would not have been charged with a crime. The investigation ended up determining that the defendant was not the cause of the accident, but that the teen walked into the road herself.

The popular teenage high school student, who was active in lacrosse and field hockey, was out celebrating the school’s basketball championship with other students and had been drinking. The victim’s father said that the girl had been arguing with her boyfriend that night. The boy followed the young lady in his vehicle after she stormed out of his house on foot. He actually saw the hit and run.

An earlier charge was brought against the defendant stating that she was driving without a license, but that charge was eventually dropped. Apparently, when she moved from one state to another there was an administrative error following a paid traffic ticket.

The girl’s parents are trying to keep the memory of their daughter alive through scholarships and other means. The scholarship is to help student athletes and the Senior Class Trip Fund is to help students at her alma mater attend school functions.

“Going positive is a fight, but it’s the only way to go,” the victim’s father states. “She was the kind of kid when she walked into a room, she put a smile on your face.”

Mystery car accidents are frustrating for the police, particularly when it involves children, as in this case, commented the New York Injury Lawyer. The 15-year old was ejected from the car she was riding in when it veered off the road and went into a roll over. She was dead on impact with the ground.
The vehicle in which she was riding had been headed to the nearest town and was being driven by an 18-year old young man, who didn’t have that much experience driving. Ambulance crews took him to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged. As soon as he was discharged, he was arrested. Another 21-year old man was arrested at the scene of the accident.
Police aren’t certain yet as to what happened to cause the first car that the young girl was riding in to go off the road, but they have suspicions that the two cars that were traveling together, were speeding and racing one another. The police are asking for any eye witnesses to come forward and help them with the investigation. They particularly want to talk to anyone who saw the blue Corsa before it flipped or a white Ford Fiesta. They’re hoping they can get to the bottom of what caused this fatality. Authorities in Nassau and Suffolk Counties are watching this case carefully.

Two suffered injuries when a sport utility vehicle flipped over near Exit 17 of the Southern State Parkway in Malverne, New York State Police have stated.
The injured people were not identified, but police assured New York Injury Lawyers their injuries were not life-threatening. The SUV flipped over in the westbound lane at about 9:20 in the morning.
One of the injured persons was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and the other to Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, a state trooper told New York Injury Lawyers. The cause of the accident remains unknown, as does the possibility of criminal charges. Police managed to clear the scene in about three hours.
In Melville, police issued 13 tickets while manning a bus safety checkpoint.
Not only did they hand out tickets, but police removed two drivers from service for safety violations and removed four vehicles from service for mechanical defects. Police say the tickets were issued for various violations of state transportation law. Lawyers in Nassau and Suffolk Counties handle these cases on a contingency basis.
Eighteen busses and limousines were inspected at the check point near Exit 49 on the Long Island Expressway. Police explained to New York Injury Lawyers the checkpoint was “part of an ongoing state-wide initiative.”
There was another check point in April, which resulted in 11 drivers and vehicles receiving tickets and being taken out of service. A man killed in an accident in Ronkonkoma has been identified. The 40-year-old victim was killed around midnight on a Saturday at Express Drive North.
A 57-year-old man was driving a Ford F350 up Hawkins Avenue when his truck hit the victim’s Dodge Ram, New York City Injury Lawyers have remarked. The victim was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center less than an hour later.
The 57-year-old driver of the Ford was not injured and police continue to investigate in an attempt to find out exactly what happened.
A spokesman for the family of the victim had no comment, except to say the family is grieving

A 40-year-old woman remains in grave condition, on a respirator. She was the passenger in a car that jumped from a Queensboro Bridge ramp in April.
The victim sustained major head injuries in the accident. Her prognosis is grim and she is not expected to live much longer. The Volkswagen she was riding in jumped the curb in Queen Plaza South in Long Island City and smashed into the front of a store, police sources reported to NYC Injury Lawyers.
The store the vehicle hit had already suffered recent damage when another car crashed into not much more than a week before. A cab driver, who was walking in the area at the time, was killed.
As for the driver of the Volkswagen, the 39-year-old man lost his arm and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. After the accident, he was charged with driving without a license.
The woman is still considered to be in critical condition at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell.
A number of elected officials, including a state senator will meet at the site of the two crashes to implore the city’s Transportation Department to investigate the area’s street design and improve traffic safety so such accidents will never happen again.
There are many accidents in the United States every day, just in the New York City area alone including Suffolk and Nassau counties. Sadly, many of them happen because of someone else’s negligence.
